5 galleries to visit in Berlin this fall
As the rainy season settles over Berlin, the city takes on a softer, greyer palette in preparation for winter and Berliners might find themselves seeking indoor pursuits. One of the best ways to lift your spirits and escape the pre-winter blues is to explore the city's vibrant exhibitions and galleries. Here are five galleries to brighten up your weekends during the cold season in Berlin.

One of the most popular and beloved galleries that always has a lot to offer is Berlinische Galerie. This fall season, it has already attracted a lot of attention from the public as it hosts the exhibition of Edvard Munch. Using the space to showcase the development of Munch’s artistic journey, the gallery is exhibiting around 80 works by Munch, supplemented by the creations of other international artists. The exhibition is a true feast for the eyes of Munch lovers as well as for those who are not familiar with the artist’s work. The show is running until the end of January 2024.
2. Hamburger Bahnhof

Besides its permanent exhibitions, Hamburger Bahnhof is dedicating its hall to the installation ‘Devouring Lovers’ by Eva Fabregas. The soft, almost cloud-like, colourful objects take up the walking space as well as decorate the walls and the ceiling of the space. ‘Devouring Lovers’ challenges the traditional interpretation of sculpting by representing human interaction and physical movement through diverse shapes and movements.
3. Fotografiska
The newly opened Fotografiska is still attracting a lot of attention even a month after its opening. Currently exhibiting shows revolving around gender, race, and sexuality, the space hosts the installations of international artists and brings some of the most notable and controversial minds of the 21st century together. The three separate shows, placed on three different floors of the gallery, will run for three more months and will eventually be replaced by other exciting art shows at the beginning of 2024.
4. CO gallery

Every photography lover knows and is bound to be bewitched by exhibitions hosted by CO Gallery. It always manages to use its space in a way that makes the experience of each show memorable and special. Currently, the space is dedicated to two shows that include the photo series by Mary Ellen Mark and the group exhibition ‘Image Ecology.’ The shows tackle different themes and are diverse in topics, however, both of them offer a look into the minds of great artists.
5. KINDL
A former brewery building from the 1920 era situated in the neighbourhood of Neukölln today serves as a contemporary art gallery. Even though many might not know about this humble space, it usually hosts eccentric shows. Currently running three different exhibitions until the beginning of next year, the gallery is offering a glimpse into the minds of international artists tackling some of the modern-day issues.
Remember to take your time at these exhibitions and even revisit them, you may miss something the first time. It’s a beautiful way to spend the winter months and get lost in art.
