Gifts that go to meaningful causes
Selecting a gift for a cherished loved one—be it your significant other, mother, or closest companion—evokes a special sense of joy. Elevating this gratifying experience is the act of opting for a token that not only elicits joy but also contributes to meaningful causes. Instead of rushing to the high street for a last-minute present, choose to gift something meaningful. If you’re rushing around before Christmas day and about to spend unnecessary money, then you’ve come to the right place. Scroll to the end as we’ve also marked down our favourite charities to donate to this Christmas if you’re looking to give back even more.
1. Awe Inspired Ruth Bader Ginsburg Necklace
This beautiful gold necklace is for the woman in your life who has inspired you the most, the ultimate girl power present. Each of the handcrafted necklaces in the collection pays homage to a woman who has changed the world, such as abolitionist Harriet Tubman or the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What we love even more is that 20% of the proceeds go to a charity of your choosing. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the fighter and tireless seeker of justice, made to empower every woman who wears it.
2. The Tote Project - Free to be wild Tote
Each tote bag bought from The Tote Project fights human trafficking and supports survivors. The designs are stunning, they’re manufactured by a fair trade social enterprise in India with organic cotton and the design is exclusive to The Tote Project. The interior is very well organised with a water bottle pocket and cell phone space and has a sturdy handle. The perfect present for someone you love with meaning.
3. Une Femme Wines The Betty & The Callie Gift Pack
Wine that is made by and supports women, what could be better than that? The proceeds of Une Femme sales go to women-centred charities such as Dress for Success and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The ready-to-give set arrives in a beautiful gift box with a bottle of each of their flagship sparkling white and sparkling rose wines, made to celebrate the person who has inspired you ‘to dream, do, lead, create, grow, and achieve’.
4. The reBoard
This wonderful cutting board is the perfect present for anyone who loves being in the kitchen, the foodie gift. It’s made of kitchen plastic scraps and renewable sugarcane and it gives half of its profits to Heart of Dinner, an organization that gives free meals to Asian elders in the US. It’s featured in Bon Appetit, Epicurious, The New York Times, and more. Making more sustainable choices in the household with a beautifully design board is a no-brainer for us.
5. Everlane The 100 Percent Human Unisex Crew
This T-shirt has been incredibly popular in the last few months, with 10% of each sale from Everlane’s going to ACLU to support its fight for civil liberties. They launched as a way to bring people together amid the civil divisions following the US 2016 election and advocate for human rights for all. To date, they’ve donated over $1 million and they don’t have any plans to stop soon.
6. Tatcha Hinoki Body Wash
Tatcha Hinoki aims to help girls in Asia and Africa stay in school and donates diverse books to underserved communities through its partnership with Room to Read. Not to mention, the exfoliating body wash is probably one of the best-smelling body washes we’ve ever smelt. This is the perfect gift for the ladies in your life who love a bit of self-care.
Charities to donate to this Christmas:
1. Save The Children
Donate to Save The Children where children in Gaza are living through a nightmare, one that is getting more distressing by the hour. Children have been subjected to unrelenting violence where their physical and mental health has been pushed beyond breaking point. Donate to the children who have been innocently caught up in this terrible conflict, who had nothing to do with causing it and urgently need our help.
2. Counterpoints Arts
Counterpoints is a leading national organization in the field of arts, migration and social change. They support the arts by and about refugees and migrants and produce a range of programmes in the UK and internationally. Their work takes place at the intersection of climate, radical justice, mental health and displacement. Donating will help them continue their work using the arts to change how people see migration and displacement.
3. The Book Trust
The Book Trust Christmas Appeal is raising money to send book parcels to children who are vulnerable or in care. These are for families who are facing challenging circumstances or children who could be spending Christmas alone. They are creating a huge ripple through their donation with 14,2500 children last Christmas receiving a festive book parcel on Christmas.
4. Age UK
Christmas is the loneliest time of the year for many older people with over 1.5 million older people who have lost their partner. The charity supports older people and a £15 donation could pay to answer three calls to Age UK’s advice line.
This holiday season, let your gifts tell a story of compassion and love and make every present a manifestation of what it truly means to give back.
